Privacy Policy

The short version

The rest of this page explains each of those in plain terms, including exactly which fields are sent when you buy a subscription.

What stays on your device

Everything you make in Cue is written to the app's private storage on your iPhone or iPad and is not uploaded anywhere:

• Your prints — the strokes, the drum hits, the key, scale, tempo, paper and mixer settings for each sheet.
• Voices you record or import, stored as audio files alongside their names and colours.
• Photos you turn into paper, downscaled and stored as images in the app.
• Your settings, including whether Cue is switched on and whether you've seen the drawing demo.

These files are covered by your device's encryption and by your iCloud or Finder backup if you have one turned on. We have no way to read them.

Photos and the microphone

Photos

When you pick a photo in the Sing tab, iOS hands the app that one image. Finding the subject you tapped, tracing its outline and planning an arrangement all happen on your device. On devices that support it, the arrangement is planned by Apple's on-device foundation model; the model runs locally and the photo is not sent to Apple or to us. On other devices the app falls back to built-in arrangement presets, and the feature still works.

The app asks only for the photos you choose. It does not read your photo library.

Microphone

Recording is only ever started by you, from the Voices tab, and only after iOS asks for permission. The recording is processed and saved on your device as one of your inks. It is not transmitted, analysed for anything other than turning it into an instrument, or used to identify you.

Saving videos

When you export a print as a video and choose to save it, the app asks for permission to add that one file to your camera roll. It never reads what is already there.

Analytics and crash reports

Cue uses Google Firebase for three things:

Firebase processes this data on Google's infrastructure as our processor. See Firebase's privacy information and Google's privacy policy.

Advertising

The free version of Cue shows ads supplied by Google AdMob. To fill an ad, AdMob receives technical information from your device, such as the device model, OS version, coarse location inferred from your IP address, and advertising identifiers.

Before anything is used to personalise ads or measure them across apps, iOS asks you for permission through the App Tracking Transparency prompt. If you decline, ads are still shown but are not personalised, and the app does not access your device's advertising identifier for tracking. You can change this answer at any time in Settings → Privacy & Security → Tracking.

The app also reads Apple's Ad Services attribution token, which tells us whether an install came from an Apple Search Ads campaign. The token contains campaign information, not your identity.

Subscriptions and purchases

Payment is handled entirely by Apple through the App Store. We never see your card, your billing address or your Apple Account.

When a subscription starts or renews, the app records the transaction so purchases can be supported and reconciled. That record is sent to our purchase service at appvantagev2.kanddlabs.com and contains:

• the product and transaction identifiers, the price, the currency, and whether it was an introductory offer;
• your country and language, taken from your device's region settings;
• device information: that it is iOS, the OS version, the device model, the device name as it appears in your iOS settings, and the vendor identifier that Apple gives this app;
• the Firebase installation ID described above.

The device name can include a name you chose — for example "Alex's iPhone" — so this record may contain personal data. It is used only to support and reconcile purchases, and it is not sold or used for advertising. You can rename your device in Settings → General → About → Name.

Qonversion is used to measure subscription performance and to attribute installs from Apple Search Ads. It receives transaction and device information in the same way. See Qonversion's privacy policy.

What we don't collect

• No account, so no name, email address or password — unless you write to us, in which case we have whatever is in your message.
• No contacts, calendar, health data or precise location.
• No copies of your prints, recordings or photos.
• We do not sell personal information, and we do not share it for cross-context behavioural advertising beyond the AdMob personalisation you can decline above.

Keeping and deleting data

Deleting the app removes everything it stored on your device, including your prints, voices and papers. If you want them, export them as videos first.

Analytics and crash data are kept for the retention periods set in Firebase, currently up to 14 months for analytics events and 90 days for crash reports. Purchase records are kept as long as we need them for support, accounting and tax.

To ask for the purchase records tied to your installation to be deleted, email us with the installation ID shown at the bottom of the app's Settings screen — tapping it copies it — and we will delete them unless we are required to keep them.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to ask what personal data we hold about you, to get a copy, to have it corrected or deleted, to object to or restrict how it is used, and to withdraw consent. Because the app has no accounts, the installation ID is normally the only way to find your records, so please include it.

Our legal basis for analytics and crash reporting is our legitimate interest in keeping the app working; for advertising personalisation it is your consent, given through the iOS tracking prompt; and for purchase records it is performance of the contract with you and our legal obligations.

Children

Cue is not directed to children under 13, and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided us with personal information, write to us and we will delete it.

This website

This site is static and sets no cookies. It is hosted on Firebase Hosting, which keeps standard server logs including IP addresses for security and operations. The demo sheet on the home page runs entirely in your browser; nothing you draw there is recorded or sent anywhere. Web fonts are loaded from Google Fonts, which receives the request.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top of the page changes with it. If a change materially affects how your information is used, we'll say so in the app as well.

Cue is made by Hoang Minh Duc, an independent app developer based in Vietnam. There is no company behind it, and he is the data controller for the information described here.
